Glow Brick
The glow brick is a light bulb which consists of a pigment that glows in the dark. This is encompassed in a square block of acrylic resin. The effect and illusion of the bulb glowing in the dark is when the light deflects in a small area between the light bulb and the acrylic resin. The surface of the glow brick is further polished so that it shines. Once there is complete darkness, the glow brick gives forth an ethereal glow.
This photoluminescence occurs when a certain object absorbs the energy around it (from sunlight) and emits it during darkness in the form of light.
The uses can be numerous. It can make a very contemporary night lamp or used as a torch on camping trips. It takes all its energy from sunlight, so its environment friendly! If you think it’s only useful during bedtime, you’re wrong. It makes a very chic piece of decoration for that empty living room table as well. By day, it possesses the qualities of a bohemian and retro piece of décor and it moonlights as a glowing phantom at night.
This is an ideal bedside object to possess if you’re the kind that isn’t nocturnal. It also makes the best prop for one that is narrating a ghost story.
No pun intended when we say that the inventor was definitely thinking out of the box when he created this one. The one quality that seems to encourage people to go get one right now is how it is really helping the environment. In this day and age, we have multiple plug points for an array of chargers charging a million other gadgets. The amount of energy resources and power that is consumed will one day take a horrible toll on us. However, it’s the little bit that we do that counts.
It just seems like a regular do it yourself kind of piece of art. You’d think it was something that was put together by a scientific artist. I’d say that’s exactly the title that fits the person that came up with this.
So, while it’s sitting on your desk probably being used as a paperweight the entire day, it’s taking in and absorbing all the amount of energy around so that it is fully charged by night and can save a lot of electricity by being used as a night lamp. It is easy and compact to travel with as well as it does not possess any charger, adapter, cord or battery. It can be a handy tool too in unexpected situations of a power failure. It is available in two colors, both promoting how environment friendly it is. You can purchase either a green one or a blue one.
Leave it for just a day and it will not disappoint you as it surrounds you with sheer and shimmering luminescent light. So, get one of these today and you most definitely will want to say “Lights Out!”.

How to make a glow stick reaction with real chemicals. Not a fake like mountain dew. Check our other glow stick videos too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwi5M1nk6fQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUCdGMeTveM Finally, how to make TCPO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViJknvEEEOA The glowstick reaction is made using a diphenyl oxalate derivative known as bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate or TCPO. Additional ingredients include ethyl acetate as a solvent, sodium acetate as a base, 9,10-bis(phenylethynyl)anthracene to give it the green color, and hydrogen peroxide to react with the TCPO and create light. The exact proportions are: 15mL of ethyl acetate 3mg of 9,10-bis(phenyethynyl) anthracene 1g of sodium acetate 800mg of TCPO 3mL of hydrogen peroxide added last to initiate the reaction. The exact same process is used in glow sticks. This is NOT mountain dew. Mountain dew cannot glow like this, it does not have the crucial TCPO chemical or any chemical like that. The reaction will glow in the dark for several minutes if you use ethyl acetate as the solvent. It will glow for several hours if you use diethyl phthalate as the solvent. To make it glow different colors, a different fluorescent dye can be used. The dye is a requirement, it will not glow without a dye. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe, rate and comment! P.S. We make most of our chemicals or buy them from Alfa Aesar.
